Equestrian & Racing Recruitment across the United Kingdom

Why we exist

Yards, studs and racing operations are hard to recruit for through a generalist agency. A yard manager who cannot ride, a groom who has never plaited a mane at 4am for an early lorry-load, a stud assistant who has never been through foaling season. Horsemanship is not on a CV and it does not come out in a phone interview run by someone who has never sat on a horse. The wrong hire quietly costs the yard in feed bills, vet bills, cross-country falls, and the atmosphere in the tack room.

Equine Staffing was set up to do the opposite. Every consultant on our desk has worked in the industry: on a competition yard, a racing yard, a stud, or in an equine veterinary practice. We know the qualifications that matter (BHS Stages, BASNS, RVN, ATF, DipWCF, SMS), the ones that do not, and the way experience actually reads on a CV.

What we do, plainly

We recruit for the UK equestrian industry. Studs, competition yards, racing operations, riding schools, equine veterinary practices, farriery, saddlery, event organisations, equestrian centres, feed and nutrition companies, and the sports professionals who support them. Direct-hire placements from senior stable staff through yard managers, head grooms, veterinary nurses, farriers, instructors, event managers and stud managers. One consultant accountable end to end.

How we vet

Every candidate on an Equine Staffing shortlist has been assessed against the same standard:

  • Horsemanship history: yards worked, disciplines covered, riding standard and current fitness where the role requires it
  • Qualifications validated (BHS Stage 1 through Fellow, BASNS, RVN, ATF, DipWCF, SMS, etc.) and any exemptions noted
  • References from a previous head girl, trainer, yard manager or veterinary practice manager. Not a corporate HR line.
  • Accommodation situation: single or family, dogs, existing horses at livery, travel expectations
  • Availability, notice period, current employment status
  • Where useful, a trial day at your yard before the offer is made

Who we work with

Our clients include private studs, top-tier competition yards, National Hunt and Flat racing operations, BHS-approved centres, equine referral hospitals, farriery practices, saddlery businesses, equestrian event organisations and feed and nutrition companies across the United Kingdom. Yard owners, trainers, stud managers and head vets who value a consultant with dirt on their boots.

How we think about a placement

A placement is not a signed contract. It is the moment 12 months later when the horses look better, the yard runs smoother, the atmosphere in the tack room is settled, and the owner has stopped thinking about backup plans. That is the outcome we measure ourselves against.

Our standards

  • Horsemanship-first screening. If we cannot articulate why a candidate has the standard the yard requires, we do not send them.
  • Real references. We speak to someone who has actually worked with the candidate on a yard, in a practice, or on the road.
  • Accommodation-aware. We match on the accommodation setup, family situation and travel expectations, not just the role.
  • One consultant, end to end. Same person from brief through the day-90 check-in.
  • Stand behind the work. 90-day replacement guarantee on every direct-hire placement.
